Taylor Swift teamed up with the Big Red Machine duo Aaron Dessner and Justin Vermon for “Renegade,” a song from How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?
“Renegade,” featuring contributions from Bryce Dessner and Jason Treuting, was recorded at Kitty Committee Studio in Los Angeles the same week that Swift and Dessner won the Grammy for Album of the Year. Michael Brown directed the song’s video.
Swift celebrated the release of the song, tweeting, “When @Aaron_Dessner came into my life, I was ushered into his world of free-flowing creativity where you don’t overthink, you just make music. A song we wrote for his project @BRMadjv (which also features Justin Vernon) is out! It’s called ‘Renegade.’”
“I, emotionally, was really struck by the first time I heard it just the way she talks about how anxiety and fear get in the way of loving someone or create an inability for someone to love,” Dessner said about the song in an interview with Zane Lowe.
He added, “And I think it’s incredibly relatable, but it’s expressed in the context of this fairly experimental sound world. The way it came together as a song it just really I think sums up the whole the Big Red Machine record.”
