Johnny Cash is set to become the first professional musician to ever receive a statue in the U.S. Capitol. Cash’s likeness is going to be unveiled during a ceremony at the Capitol’s Emancipation Hall on the morning of September 24. The statue of The Man In Black will become a permanent part of the National Statuary Hall Collection. Kevin Kresse, a Little Rock sculptor from Cash’s home state of Arkansas, was chosen to create the bronze likeness of the country music icon. The eight feet tall sculpture will apparently depict Cash holding both a Bible and a guitar. In an interview with NPR’s Scott Simon back in May, Kresse said, “I think the honesty of his work, the truth in his lyrics and the simplicity and straightforward way of getting that message across just spoke to me as an artist as well.” (Rolling Stone)
