Superstar country band Old Dominion released their breezy new summer jam “I Was on a Boat That Day” on Friday, May 21.

Frontman Matt Ramsey told Country 101.3 KFDI in Wichita, Kansas, the idea for the song began six or seven years ago, around the same time as the band was writing their hit “Break Up With Him.”

“We were kicking it around for a long time. We’d bring it up and shoot it down I don’t know how many times we decided not to write this song,” Ramsey said.

He explained that co-writers Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne eventually helped them “see the light that it was not a joke title, it was actually a really fun title.”

Ramsey said the band had the idea that the song needed to sound like a party and a “little intoxicated,” so they “drank some tequila and went in and did our best little party dance song.”

Meanwhile, Old Dominion recently announced their “Live From The Ballpark” tour, which will see the band playing several historic stadiums across the country.
