Despite being a finalist in six categories, Morgan Wallen will not be included in the 2021 Billboard Music Awards show.
Dick Clark Productions said Wallen’s recent conduct does not align with its core values, referring to an incident in January in which he used the N-word with friends as they were entering his Nashville home.
“Morgan Wallen is a finalist this year based on charting. As his recent conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity (performing, presenting, accepting),” Dick Clark Productions said in a statement.
The statement added, “It is heartening and encouraging to hear that Morgan is taking steps in his anti-racist journey and starting to do some meaningful work. We plan to evaluate his progress and will consider his participation in future shows.”
The country music singer and songwriter was also excluded from the ACM Awards earlier this month. He was disqualified from all the industry voted categories.
