Jason Aldean takes the pain of heartbreak and pours it out in a brand-new music video for his anthemic single, “Whiskey Drink.”
Premiering on Friday, Nov. 8, the video finds Aldean performing in front of a scenic image of Nashville. The city offers a glow of neon lights that surround the bustling downtown area, making for the perfect setting to capture the emotions flowing throughout the clever lyrics.
The track was officially sent to country radio as the award-winning entertainer’s newest single. It offers a unique perspective on the aftermath of a breakup, by illustrating a conversation between Aldean and the drink that he has reunited with once again in an attempt to mend the pain.
In between the performance clips, the story plays out by a man holding onto his bottle in the brown bag while looking incredibly somber under the bar’s neon sign. The drink doesn’t appear to be doing the trick because as he sits there, memories flash across his mind, reminding him of the happy days with the woman who is no longer in his life.
At the end of the video, the character wakes up after the boozy night with a desire to finally move on for good. He does so by pulling out the photos of him and his ex, stuffing them into the empty bottle and cathartically tossing it into the river. This way, he’s literally drowning the pain in the water instead of using alcohol.
While previously discussing the powerful nature of the tune, Aldean explained that it acted as a “pivotal” moment in his creative process because it was something so “cool” and “different” that it helped pave the way for the rest of his HIGHWAY DESPERADO album.
“It’s new territory for us a little bit, like it’s familiar but not the same. I just remember falling in love with that song. When the chorus hits, all of a sudden, I’m all in. The chorus is where the money’s at,” he shared.
The portion of the song that the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Decade emphasizes offers an intense realization as he explains that in order to get over the loss of a love interest, he turns to the liquor in hopes that it will prevent him from thinking about “who she’s with or where she is or how bad I miss her.”
“Whiskey Drink” was penned by John Morgan, Jonathan Edwards, Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy and serves as the third radio single off Aldean’s latest album, Highway Desperado. It follows the Hot 100 chart-topping hit “Try That In A Small Town” and “Let Your Boys Be Country.”
Jason Aldean recently wrapped his sold-out Highway Desperado Tour after playing to sold-out crowds across the U.S in support of his 11th studio album. He closed out the trek with a hometown show in Macon, GA, where he also played an additional Concert For the Kids charity benefit for the city’s Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital.
With the help from longtime supporters of the hospital, the Aldean family raised and donated more than $618,000 to support the hospital’s continued lifesaving efforts.
Taking to Instagram to recap the visit, Aldean wrote, “Thanks for an amazing homecoming Macon!! Love u guys and thanks for an epic night. Georgia will always be HOME for me. ❤️”
Jason Aldean has no other shows on the books until 2025.
