Country crooner Jake Owen has been accused of copyright infringement by songwriters, Alexander Cardinale and Morgan Reid, who have filed an official lawsuit against the singer in Nashville.

According to the pair, Owen lifted the exact structure and lyrics of his no. 1 hit, “Made For You” from their 2014 collaborative work of the same name. The “notes, structure, harmony, vocal style and rhythm are clear indicators” of this fact, stated the lawsuit filed by the songwriters.

Additionally, the original song was also picked up by Coca-Cola to use in their 2016 ad campaign, which involved the phrase “Made For You” being printed on hundreds of thousands of Coke cans along with a QR code that pointed back to the song.

Owen is yet to make a public comment about the accusation, while Cardinale and Reid are hoping for a jury trial.
