Rhiannon Giddens announced on Instagram on Tuesday her plans to headline and curate her own music festival called Biscuits & Banjos. The inaugural festival will celebrate Black culture and roots musicians, and will take place in Durham, North Carolina on April 25-27, 2025. Giddens, a Pulitzer Prize-winning artist, will not only perform solo during the festival, but she will also organize a reunion of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, the Grammy-winning string band she co-founded with Dom Flemons that has not played a live show since 2014. Flemons will also perform solo during the festival, as will another one-time Carolina Chocolate Drops member, Leyla McCalla. The bill also includes legendary bluesman Taj Mahal, jazz great Christian McBride, rising country star Rissi Palmer, gospel act the Legendary Ingrammettes, and string band New Dangerfield. “This festival has been a long-time dream of mine,” Giddens said in a statement. “I want Biscuits & Banjos to bring that same spirit of discovery and community to today’s generation of artists and fans.” (Variety)
